Virgo Season kicks off with her ruler Mercury stationing retrograde @ Virgo 21-22 on Wednesday 23 August.
As we know, among the areas Mercury rules are cognition and communication. Mercury likes to gather facts and information, too.
Although we tend to relegate Mercury to mundane tasks – especially while he’s in fastidious Virgo – there’s a spiritual dimension to Mercury, as well. The Winged Messenger is the social butterfly, the emissary between the inner, outer, lower, higher realms of the mind.
Thus, Mercury is quite well-versed in divination and is the intuitive connector of seemingly disparate dots and meaningful patterns.
Virgo rules the Solar 6th house of everyday life – wellbeing and health, occupation and digestion. Virgo alchemizes the nuts and bolts of ordinary existence into the extraordinary.
When Mercury stations retrograde on 23 August, he will be within one degree of Pallas Athena in Virgo.
It’s common knowledge Pallas Athena burst forth from Jupiter’s forehead fully armored and fully developed as a feminine goddess. Like her father, Athena presides over divine Justice – in addition to logic, reasoning and creative intelligence.
Athena is a powerful emblem of independence and the wisdom of individual thought.
What might this particular Mercury retrograde present to us collectively and individually?
Mercury is associated with Hermes Trismegistus.
Hermes Trismegistus is the Greek name for the Egyptian god Thoth who authored the revelatory Hermetic writings of occult theology and divination.
Hermes Trismegistus is also a psychopomp – a spiritual entity who ferries departed souls to the afterlife.
Remember: Mercury can travel at the speed of light between Olympus and the Underworld.
During this Mercury retrograde, our attention will be directed to what lies beneath the surface of the obvious. And, since Mercury connects with Pallas Athena before his backtrack through Virgo, he’s going back to double check facts with a finer-toothed comb and assess if their application to the “real world” is functioning optimally.
The first word that popped into my psychic field and stream of consciousness is –
Apophenia.
Apophenia is the ability to see patterns and perceive connections between apparent unrelated things and events.
“Conspiracy Theories” are filed under Apophenia.
Therefore, this retrograde might disseminate Apophenia’s psychic ability to a wider sphere of percipients who before were blocked in cognitive dissonance.
This retrograde just might validate previously-deemed conspiracy theories as fact.
Virgo rules the stomach and digestion.
Mercury rules the nervous system.
